DIY: Headboard and Dresser Corner Deco

It's been a while since I updated here- things have been hectic to say the least. There is some catching up to do with the DIYs around the home. This is one of my favourites. After the DIY Shoe Shelves, we had two chunks of MDF board leftover. I was hunting for secondhand headboards for quite a while but to no avail. They were either horrible colours, faux leather (which I don't like) or the wrong sizes. Brand new ones were quite pricey so we waited.

Inspiration struck when I studied the double bed headboard we got from Freecycle for the second bedroom and I asked my husband if it was possible to combine the two MDF boards. He measured the length and lo and behold, both combined were exactly the length of our bed! He managed to find two metal connectors to combine the boards and that did the trick. I had saved extra pillows that we were no longer using or that have been with us for a while. I never throw these away as the stuffing has been extremely valuable- I've stuffed the couch multiple times since we got it to renew the puffy look.

Time to whip out the staple gun. I covered the entire board with stuffing. Pillow stuffing is amazing for this job because it's already rectangle shaped and not lumpy like cotton fluffs. We stapled the stuffing down at the back. I then decided to use a single duvet cover which was kindly given to us by a stranger. It had pretty stripes ranging from purple to grey which we both liked as it went with our purply grey wall on the side. I slid the board into the duvet cover, folded the sides to the back following the stripes and we stapled it down.

We followed the design of the other headboard by screwing in two pieces of wood (which we happened to have in our garage leftover) on both sides for the legs. We put a sheet of plastic between the legs and the board to protect the back of the headboard from developing mildew in the cold months.

Voila!
*Side Note: We got two lovely bedside tables and table lamps from kind strangers too. We painted the bedside tables white to match the dresser. The fresh coat of paint spruced it up quite a bit.

When my in-laws were here after we moved in, we were brainstorming on how to mount pictures without drilling so many holes. My father-in-law had a brilliant idea. We had leftover wooden bars in the garage. We painted the bar the colour of the wall. Then it was mounted onto the wall with two screws. We could hang four pictures on it.

I printed out some photos from our engagement shoot and a reminder 'Honey, Let's Be Kind to One Another'. The peace lily was from a dear fellowship group friend which has now blossomed soon to reach the top of the frames. The bamboo tray was from Daiso. We needed something to hold all the perfumes.

On the right side, we had a faux grass plant from Ikea and another one of my favourite prints, 'A Little Thing called Love' surrounded by gold hearts.

*Update*: For the spring and summer, I switched out the photos- one of rainclouds, us at the London Eye and a cupcake saying 'You Complete Me'. As you can see, the peace lily has been thriving.

I really enjoyed decorating our room as always and a little goes a long way to brighten up one's day.
