[Ying blogging again!]
Due to various time constraints and work commitments, we decided to register our marriage at the Malaysian High Commission in London. We were told that the process normally takes up to a year, from applying to the day the documents are signed. Apparently the High Commission needs to get our details sent back to Malaysia, which has to be checked against some database in the states in which we were born, and due to the typical procrastination of the relevant workers, this could take ages. So we decided to apply in July last year, and were prepared to sign in July this year just before returning home for our wedding ceremony.
In November last year we were most surprised when we were told that we already had the green light! Coincidentally, my parents would be visiting us in December, so we decided to pick a date that month for our signing.
Left-hand, right-hand
We thought it would also be a great opportunity to celebrate the day with friends whom we met here in the UK. [Our lovely photographer-friend kindly offered to be our photographer for the signing ceremony too! He is in this group photo, only behind the camera...]
And there isn't a celebration that does not include food! We took everyone out to a Malaysian restaurant called Rasa Sayang in Chinatown. As all our friends we invited were not Malaysians (they were Singaporeans, Australians, Chinese and British!), we thought they would enjoy a little Malaysian food.
Legally married!
