After Christmas, I caught a really bad virus. My mouth and tongue exploded with sores and I had a fever. I couldn't sleep, talk or eat. I spent new years in bed and after in an armchair as lying down would cause the blood to flow up to my head more that it would hurt unbearably.
I finally started getting better and I could eat mash potatoes at a glacial pace. My brother-in-law and his wife decided to go on a roadtrip to a few places in the UK. We managed to join them in Canterbury and Oxford after I felt well enough to travel. My mother-in-law had a good recommendation for me to bite down on aloe vera slices to help the sores cool down. I had a tupperware of them to change them out when they get really hot.
We visited St.Martin's Church which was the first church in England built in the late 6th century. The church is still in use.
I had some miso soup for my dinner and behold the Canterbury Cathedral. We went for Evensong which was held near the crypt. The place was massive and it felt so surreal walking through the many arches, hallways and sanctuaries.
The next day we went to Oxford.
We tried to see the individual colleges. Some of them were open for visitors.
We managed to tour Wadham College thanks to an ex-colleague of my husband's. It was lovely. We heard some stories of the school customs such as wearing robes to dinner. I was amazed that the lecturers have residences on campus.
After that, we had a lovely dinner at Mission Burrito.
