Cornish Christmas- Part IV

The rush after the rain

We drove to Port Quin. This is another scenic but small port 20 minutes from Port Isaac. The roads were steep and only wide enough for 1 car at a time. Water was flowing down from the roads and drains due to the Southwest rains.

The husband enjoyed experimenting with his camera capturing 'Movement' while both my mom-in-law and I had gone down towards the port.

Crouching Camera, Hidden Tiger

There was a ramp on which we could walk down to the mouth of the sea. My mom-in-law is brilliant at seeing living shapes in inanimate rocks. Spot the tiger.

We started collecting stones that were shaped by the waters there.

Postcard-worthy?
The Weathervane, the Moon and the Pink Sky- name of pubs?

After having Cornish Cream Tea in Morwenna Cafe, Bude, we bought our own scones and clotted cream.

These are heavenly. Also very fattening. But, you only live once right? But the irony of what I just said: it shortens the life that I only live once. Haha.

Pan-fried trout- best tasting fish thus far

Juicy goodness. My mom-in-law brought rosemary and olive oil butter along and we picked up some garlic paste in the Post Office next door. That took care of our cooking needs for the 5 days.

The flat smooth stones from Port Quin. We brought so many back because they were all so pretty. My fingers braved the very cold water to nip these  up as keepsakes.

On the day we were scheduled to leave, we decided to make a stop at Boscastle. This is a tiny village close to Crackington Haven which we passed by a number of times on our way to Port Isaac and Port Quin. We remember it by the 180 degree turn on the slope.

Best Cornish pasties and rumballs

This town was flooded in 2008 and each shop there has a sign indicating how high the flood waters rose to back then. The old ovens in this bakery that were swept away by the flood are still yet to be found.

High Cliff

We took a detour before heading back as we were very reluctant to leave Cornwall. We were intrigued by a road sign that said 'High Cliff- 1 mile'. I came down and could not withstand the strong chilly wind for long so I went back into the car whilst the husband and mom-in-law climbed over fences and trekked into the vast meadows. My father-in-law joined them. Soon, they were out of sight.
If I Ruled the World....
