Beautiful Santorini Day 2

Yiasou! (means hello in Greek!)

We stayed at Ecoxenia Studios. The apartment had a kitchenette and a 2nd bunk storey with 2 beds. The owner gave us an upgrade because it was off-peak season. Very nice man- Christopher. You can see him in the proposal entry. He happens to be a Physics teacher and has a Masters from Paris (impressive!). The reception is in a quaint hut in the beautiful garden.

We rented a scooter to go around the island for 12 Euros a day. We could stop wherever we wanted. It was extremely convenient. We ended up being so adventurous by going on insane terrains while I recorded and snapped pictures with one hand, we shocked ourselves as you will see in the following posts. Also, the town is basically divided into tourists(the ones with helmets) and the locals(those without). Ying and I were joking about how they don't really have law enforcement here- no police/ station/ jail in sight. In fact, no hospitals in sight either. Just a clinic. Our beloved scooter below. I LOVED THIS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE THE MOST! SO many memories! Me constantly chiming in Ying's ear: DRIVE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD REMEMBER!!!! (you drive on the wrong side of the road there like in the US)

There are 2 roads round the island. On the higher one, you can see the sea + towns on your right. The lower road is right next to the sea and the towns are on the left. Both roads have gorgeous, breathtaking views.

At one point of a curve, we looked down and saw this sight below. We couldn't help but turn down to explore it.

No one was around and so we had some fun!! Another couple soon found this spot and began to visit it daily for a swim! The water was so clear we could see the fishes nipping at our feet.

We visited the town of Oia-Ia today (I found Lena's house!!- the one in the Sisterhood movie which was the sole reason for my yearning for Santorini). THE HOUSE!!!! I almost fainted when I saw the door! It was so gorgeous. I don't think anyone lives there. I also don't think anyone knows of the movie here. Amazing that I managed to stumble upon it given the many houses in all the nooks and crannies.

Oia has the 2nd best sunset on the island. People assemble around the edge of the cliff to see it and when the sun sets there, everyone claps! The most spectacular view ever!

We sifted the town for the cheapest place to eat. The souvlaki sandwich you see is 3.50 Euros. Very filling and tasty!

We came across a lovely bookstore! The lady stays there in a similar 2nd storey bunk with tiny stairs leading to it above the tower of books. She arranged the entire shop. There is a hole which leads out in the ceiling where she wrote some inspiring words on the concrete. She also built a Philosophy Tower of wood to reach the higher books. Such a dream!

There are so many Greek Orthodox churches there. Plastered all over the map. The bells of one was chiming at about 5 plus in the evening. You can hear it throughout the town. The tourists and locals are equally friendly too! I ran into at least 5 tourists exclaiming about the magnificent view and losing their spouses in the crannies.

Haha. But every path leads to the same place ultimately. You can kind of navigate yourself around. Also, digressing, a lady took a picture of my shoes because  she liked them! They were bright and orange! :)

Every part of the town is a nook leading down to steps that curve in and out suddenly revealing the view of the cliff and the sea. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW AMAZING IT WAS!

The architecture was marvellous. I still cannot figure out how they make the dome-shaped concrete roofs! We slept right beneath it on the 2nd storey.

Simply, simply amazing! Makes one realize how much the world has to offer to those who need to simply open their hearts, instead of spending their lives barking about ketuanan this and ketuanan that. How does one get to the island (besides by sea)?

Truth indeed!

There are various flights going into Santorini. There are direct flights from the UK, Amsterdam etc. I think the other countries probably fly straight into Athens and take a flight from there into Santorini.

The cruise ships looked magnificent from the top of the caldera. Will post pictures soon!
