There are innumerable exclamation marks in this post. I apologise for my enthusiasm and for the length. I got carried away.
Canberra Day 12: of Church and Markets
Canberra Baptist Church
The preacher gave a wonderful exposition on Psalms as a whole.
I later learnt that windows with a pointy top are inspired by the Gothic era and rounded tops were of the Germanic era.
Beautiful weather that day
We passed the eagle US gave to Australia on the way to lunch.
We headed to the Old Bus Depot Market, the most fascinating place ever.
Although it was so crazily crowded, people didn't push or shove much.
The weather made it even more bearable. Usually back home I wouldn't enjoy being around so many people at once but I liked this! There was a massage station right in the middle of the hustle and bustle tucked slightly away by a large umbrella. We took a glimpse at his appointment book and he was booked up for almost the entire day! We bought some Wagonga Coffee from Ethiopia.

The Australians pride themselves on handmade goodies. Very enterprising and original.
Like the lady, I too was fascinated with the t-shirts.
There was bread ready for dipping into many types of sauces. Others were Mediterranean stores, Greek spices, all kinds of olives- all open for tasting. If this was any part of Asia, they wouldn't make a profit at all. :) Many would only sample and not buy. Aboriginal art was all around the market. There were quite a few artists whose art pieces were absolutely beautiful. Very inspiring to look at those stations. Some kooky, some minimalist and others just plain colourful.
We took pictures outside the market later.
The sky was just magnificent, I couldn't resist.
We headed to Fyshwick Market after that to stock up on groceries. It was about 40 minutes until closing time. You get the best deals then (in Tesco Penang and also in Canberra!).
Absolutely LOVE signs like these. Name anything a Shoppe and you've got me sold!
I was hunting down the stall that sold Churros under the carport because of Natalie Tran, a youtube personality.
Everything was marked down!!!
$1.00!!! Oh such glee befalls me! 99cents for Bock Choy! Who could resist the Bock let alone the Choy!!!
Now here's a funny story.
See these? These were marked half price. Cheesecakes galore. There was only one left of a particular flavour and thank God we were next. We had been queuing for somewhat like 5 minutes and a young teenboy manning the booth emerged. That smart alec decides to cut the line into two right behind us and sent us away to another line. So naturally, the lady after us went for the cake we wanted. Auntie Lui was sooo furious she let the staff have it. Soon, they had 4 angry Chinese squinty-eyes glaring at them: Sis, Auntie, Ying and I. LOL!!! The superior shot us an apologetic look and the boy was given a nudge sort of to say be careful the next time you do this. But that was all. Good customer service would have been served if the woman or the boy had at least apologised and told him not to do it again. In the truest Aussie sense of the word, I 'reckon' he had quite a good bit of terror that day. :) From the 4 of us. The nature of our Asian eyes makes a glare twice as effective. He daren't look at us at all after what happened. He kept his head hung low. Gotta laugh at the dagger- eyes. Back home, the stares we gave would have scared no one. It would have been an everyday normalcy.
Onto the humoungous, gargantuant fruits, vegetables and nuts!! Super sweet as well! All the fruits had freshly cut slices for sampling and who could resist buying such sweet and juicy fruits after trying them!!
Gotta love your pasta at 99 cents!!
And back home... our spoils. There was New York cheesecake, marble cheesecake, raspberry cheesecake, mango cheesecake etc..
Blueberry Cheesecake
We even bought two huge pies for 4 bucks a piece. I ate mine before we got home to snap a picture of it, unfortunately. It was a very yummy steak pie with huge chunks of real steak (Malaysia bakeries you suck) and lots of yummy gravy.
Ying was in one happy mood because not only did he buy a fruit tart...
he also bought fresh mango yoghurt from Ziggy's!
He sliced up frozen beef for our Pho that night. Slicing beef as thinly as you can is not an easy task at all so kudos to you for withstanding the painful icy hands.
