Scotland Day 4- Durness, Smoo Cave, Shin Falls and Dornoch

We arrived in Durness (right up north of Scotland) in the evening and since the owner of our B&B was out picking up her children from swimming, we were to let ourselves in. :) So we hung around in the hall until they arrived and we were treated to some homemade jam tarts which the kids help make earlier. How sweet! The room was very warm and welcoming. Karen, our hostess was very friendly and so were her three children: Evie, (forgot the second one! So sorry!) and Alfie (4yo). Evie taught me how to do the Highland Fling as she loves to dance. Alfie was a really active and strong little boy who was breakdancing around the living room. Entertaining little one who is going to grow up to be a wrestler (according to his siblings). Haha.

We went to the Smoo Cave the next day. It had been raining heavily the previous day and the guy who gives rides on his air-raft into the second chamber of the cave could not do it that day because water was gushing out.

The view of the very loud and heavy waterfall in the first chamber.

Magnificent cave.

Took a drive around to look at the beaches.

The sand here was extremely fine and melting away into the water.

We decided to take a walk on the beach. As I approached the sand, I could see the wind creating swirls on the sand almost like wide curly mists -looked like the shore was taking huge breaths on a snowy day. Much like the roads in Iceland when the wind hits it. Tried to capture the wind movements on the sand in the picture below.

Next, we went to the Cocoa Mountain (suggested by a friend). We ordered some chocolates which were really very tasty ones.

And of course, a cup of the best hot chocolate...

The imposing snow capped mountains.

The very hearty breakfast Karen made us the next day before we headed off to Dornoch.

Love these placemats

Said goodbye to their very adorable dog, Sophie.

We arrived at Falls of Shin after a long drive to see some leaping salmon.

But alas, due to the heavy rain, I would be surprised if any salmon made it upstream alive..... :( The water was going like the white water rapids....eek!)

We arrived in Dornoch finally and got to our caravan! I was very impressed by the mobile home. So much room we could fit an entire family of 6 or more!

We were really exhausted from the drive so a hot shower and some hot food was all we had energy for before collapsing into a coma-state sleep. :D
