Bath time!

Parents that come over for a visit always give us good reason to travel. Thanks to a very generous MAS deal, Wifey's parents set foot for the first time in the UK in April. We arranged a trip to Wales, but also managed to squeeze in a day trip to Bath on our way there. And what a good plan it turned out to be! Thanks to the gorgeous sun and clear skies, we saw Bath in a new light (!) - very different from how it looked when we visited a few winters ago.

Parking in Bath is said to be a nightmare, so we booked online to park at someone's house. It was in a residential area atop a steep hill, which gave us a nice welcome view. Of course, the famous half-headed sculpture of Mark Foster gave us his unique welcome as well.

The unique colour of the Bath Stone that is used as material for the buildings in the city centre formed a great backdrop for many interesting sights, including horse-drawn carriages and a fiddler/tight-rope-walker, whom we also saw performing in Cambridge before!

The Circus is a circular space surrounded by townhouses, where a number of very imposing trees in the centre gave us some room for creative photography. The Royal Crescent, on the other hand, is a row of townhouses lined up in the shape of a crescent. We baked for a while in the sun at the wide grass expanse which the crescent overlooked.

The shopping centre had a display of creative ways to fold unwanted books. Outside the Jane Austen Centre stood a statue of Jane Austen and a (real) man from her era.

River Avon, Pulteney Bridge and a friend we made, who unfortunately terminated our friendship at short notice when we approached him.

Finally we visited the breathtaking Bath Abbey. Its intricacies make any repeated visit as if the first. The stained glass windows depicting the life of Christ were our obsession this time round.
